with deliberation? reckless abandon? or the winds of fate?
Advice on virtually any aspect of writing can be found in a myriad places. You have only to Google, or you can find succinct bites of it in such places as Pinterest, Instagram or Tumblr. The drawback is that these sources are not always easily searchable for the exact bit of wisdom you’re looking for. And, really, the middle of your NaNo novel is probably not the best time to go out surfing for authorial intelligence, but keep it in your back pocket for later.
I was hit by inspiration last night while plotting, but now am having a problem applying it. The main character who needs to be involved needs better motivation. So, I’m going to try out a technique from a writing class I took earlier this year. It is to interview a character. This is supposed to move you beyond a stuck spot. The characters often know more about what’s going on than the writer. Crossing my fingers this girl will open up and I can write the scene tonight.
(Can I include the interview in my word count???)
If that proves to be a bust, there are always story cubes… or maybe tarot cards…
PS. The interview totally worked! The conflict I dreamed up will work; the character definitely has the motivation. Now I shall continue onward to make these two very sad for a while…
